A Christmas carol for William Rehnquist
William Rehnquist loved Christmas, and he loved to sing. Though it caused him grief every December, he presided as Chief Justice over what he steadfastly called a Christmas party. The highlight came when the Chief Justice led the Supreme Court and its staff in a round of carols.
Caroling with Chief Justice Rehnquist during the Christmas season of 1992 remains one of my fondest memories of the year I spent working at the Supreme Court. So dearly did Chief Justice Rehnquist love Hark! The Herald Angels Sing that he commanded us, "That is my favorite carol. We shall sing it again."
And so we did. In fond memory of Chief Justice Rehnquist, I offer Nana Mouskouri's rendition of Hark! The Herald Angels Sing:
